The museum was founded in 2008 and is the only one of its kind in Britain – it is self-supporting and reinvests in community initiatives. Situated in the cultural hub of Covent Garden, exhibitions include video, film stills, props and industry paraphernalia, with permanent collections documenting the lives of national treasures such as Charlie Chaplin. The South Bank’s Imax cinema is a major part of the British Film Institute. The iconic drum-shaped building has the largest screen in Britain, as tall as five double decker buses. An exciting programme of 2D and 3D films are shown in crystal clear vision with surround sound.
We’re very pleased to be able to offer workshops at LFA –a school that trains graduates in all areas of practical filmmaking. A day at the academy includes an introduction to the language of film and all stages of production. Workshops are tailored to fit the interests of the groups, with a chance to look at theatrical make-up, screenplay and marketing
This tour brings to life the work of the BBC’s brand new, state-of-the-art, multimedia broadcasting centre. Students can get a camera’s eye view into some of the studios broadcasting to the nation, and hear about the rich history of the building and the BBC. They may be able to have a go at news reading and make their own radio play with sound effects.
See London through a different lens – Spark debate on all aspects of film making with a guided tour of 35 London movie locations. Travelling on a luxury mini coach, students watch DVD clips of films such as The Dark Knight, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Da Vinci Code, Bridget Jones’s Diary, 28 Days Later and Notting Hill, as they visit spots where some of the scenes were filmed.
